Why is my stainless steel pans not dishwasher safe?

We were married last July and has some very nice items for the kitchen. Unfortunately, 'nice' seems to be synonymous with "not dishwasher safe. I understand that items can be broken, but we have a series of Calphalon pots and pans in your manual say that washing in the dishwasher voids the warranty life. I could not understand how boiling liquids in it and use spatulas and metal beaters that I think would do more damage than a dishwasher. Is it harmful for them to go in the dishwasher? It seems that I spend most of my nights washing pots and pans! Kitchenaid knives have also not supposed to go in the dishwasher. All of them are metal, and wash with hot water and scrub, which is what would a dishwasher. Does anyone have any ideas about this? Thanks in advance! What if I put regular dish soap (like me use the sink) and run it that way?

"Nice and expensive" = hand wash! Like face = washing clothes by hand! Do not use regular dish washing liquid in your dishwasher, unless the plan Spring cleaning the entire kitchen! You will have bubbles 3 feet tall!
