Question about homemade baby food?
So I have decided to feed our daughter homemade baby food for many reasons. She is currently 3.5 months so I have started to make and frezze food for future use. So far I have carrots and sweet potatos and will be doing squash this week. I have a few questions:
1. I want to do some fruit. Does it freeze as well as the veggies?
2. Besides Squash, sweet potatoes and green beans what other stage 1 foods can I make and freeze?
3. How thin should i make it? I would rather make it a little thicker consistency and thin it out if I have too right?
4. Any tips or tricks is appreciated..
**I am using a Magic Bullet food processor and I have a blender to make the food.**
Pippin: I am not doing too much just a little of each until I know what she likes. I did 3 large carrots and 2 large sweet potatoes and will only do one large squash. Just enough to be prepared.
Fruit freezes just as well as veggies, but some of it can get too thin. Keep some rice cereal on hand to thicken it with (peaches are the worst). Don’t make applesauce, you can buy a large jar of unsweetened applesauce for a couple of dollars and freeze in smaller portions. You can do banannas (they turn brown but don’t worry), peaches, and pears. Later you can do pineapples, mangos, etc.
Peas can be a starter food, as well as carrots. Eventually you can do mixed veggies, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.
I always made Emma’s about the consistency of stage II babyfood, I wanted it to be thick enough to stay on the spoon. I think stage I is too runny.
I always liked a blender better than a food processor.
The only food Emma did not care for was peas, but she would eat them mixed with carrots.
I always bought sweet potatoes, squash, and carrots fresh. Green beans, peas, other veggies I bought frozen. Fruit I bought some fresh and some canned (light so there is no sugar).
Have fun……it is exciting at first, but eventually gets boring!
We started Emma on veggies at four months.
